Union Kitchen and Tap in San Diego

While browsing options for San Diego Restaurant Week (SDRW), we noticed Gaslamp Union Kitchen & Tap on the list. One of our favorite samples during Taste of Downtown 2014 were their Farmhouse Meatballs so we decided it was time to give the actual restaurant a go! I also made reservations through opentable.com for here and two other restaurants for SDRW. If I'm eating out already, might as well earn points toward a dining check toward more eats!

The restaurant is spacious between its indoor tables, bar seating, and outdoor patio area. There are also TV's mounted for watching sports or whatever they play on the tube.

Albacore Poke at Union Kitchen and Tap in San Diego

After reviewing the menu, we decided to order the Albacore Poke! After a bite, we felt the fish was a bit sticky and needed something to brighten it up, perhaps a dash more salt or sesame oil. I found it to be quite plain, even with the addition of fried wonton chips.

Bali Hai - Crispy Calamari appetizer

We went to Bali Hai for restaurant week and there were options galore on their pre-fixe dinner menu! Due to our group size, we were also able to try out many of the items on the menu! There were 6 appetizers, 8 entrees, and 3 desserts to choose from (compared to most places with about half the selection)! The cost is $35/person for dinner.

I thought the decor was very beautiful inside and I liked the candles on the table. There was also a lovely view outside the windows of the restaurant since it was right by the ocean.

On Friday, we dined out at Del Mar Rendezvous. It's a beautiful restaurant with modern dark wood tones, asian inspiration, and an extensive wine rack of which we partook later for dinner! Both the Manager Dan and Chef Tony have worked hard to continually make improvements in the experience as well as the food which has won them "best chinese" from San Diego Magazine for the past three years. One big selling point is that they have a separate vegetarian/vegan menu as well as a gluten-free menu, both with over 40 items to choose from, including gluten-free beer! It's fantastic that they are catering to more diners AND it is delicious!

We tried out some of the items that are going to be part of the San Diego Restaurant Week menu below:

It's back!

San Diego Restaurant Week offers diners a chance to feast at a great price! For lunch, a 2 course meal is available for either $15, $20, or $25, depending on the restaurant.  For dinner, a 3 course meal is available for $20, $30, or $40!

Last year the lunches were introduced to the deal and we thought it was great! See our reviews from last year's restaurant week in the related links!

Restaurant 2: $10 Lunch at Cicciotti's Trattoria Italiana and Seafood.

We decided to visit this place for restaurant week because it was very cheap at $10 for lunch. Plus, the menu was almost the exact same as the $20 dinner with the addition of dessert.
