San Diego Comic Con 2017 - San Diego, CA
This year, San Diego Comic Con was from July 19-23, 2017. SDCC tickets are notoriously difficult to get but the number of free activities outside the con have increased as well. Check out the available free activities as well as some highlights from my one day inside San Diego Comic Con 2017!
Free San Diego Comic Con Activities
Walking Dead exhibit! I don't do zombies but other people enjoyed this one.
Huge balloons from Cartoon Network! I recently started watching Three Bare Bears and it's so amusing!
Rick was floating above the Adult Swim exhibit. Nearby, I would have ridden these animal vehicles if it weren't for the closed toed shoe rule... doh! At least I got a shirt, after waiting in line for an hour. Lines are EVERYWHERE, both inside and outside the con!
Tokidoki partnered with Peanuts for this cool collection! My friend got a signed postcard from Simone Legno plus we took a picture with him!
King Kong exhibit... look at that HAND! I dared not get closer (or wait in a line).
Yasss food! I got this from the AT&T Mr Mercedes private brunch at Omni hotel. I was someone's plus one woot!
Our friend had an extra ticket to the Rotten Tomatoes live taping too. Celebrity guests included Gaten Matarazzo from Stranger Things (left), David Bradly from The Strain, and Fabio (right). That night I binge-watched Stranger Things to catch up.
Sister-in-law said you could get free drinks in the Wrecked exhibit! Looks like I missed out! Also, those people with umbrellas are waiting for HALL H! Those lines were CRAZY!!!
This was a cool looking outdoor laser tag setup by Conival. I didn't have time because my expiring parking meter was a mile away!
The Tick is back again! I remember watching this cartoon as a kid!
Note: This is just a sampling based on the pictures I took. There were many other activities for fans that aren't even listed here!
San Diego Comic Con in the Convention Center
My second time seeing Supernatural in Hall H! I'm sooooo far back! This year it was only a 15 minute wait since I arrived after panel started. Two years ago, I somehow got in with NO line! *shrug*
Michelle Nichols from Star Trek was signing autographs and taking photos with fans.
One of my favorite game series is The Legend of Zelda so I took a free selfie with LINK! Too bad I didn't find a cosplayer that day.
Here's an excited fan with Erika Alexander who was signing for her Concrete Park comic book. Erika was a blast to chat with! It's supporting artists like this that makes Comic Con so great!
The guy on the left made all these balloon hats! So cool!
Traveling Stickman offering you... a stickman! I think he said this might be his last Comic Con though?
Jeff Keane from The Family Circus autographs for charity! A small donation gives you your choice of cartoon... my cartoon was Wonder Woman inspired!
Of course, there was so much more to see inside! You must check it out yourself at least once! Talk to these amazing artists and please support them!
San Diego Comic Con Cosplay
The first pic taken at SDCC was with Dare Devil! Brother's phone died the night before so this nice sister brought a backup phone! I may have skipped SDCC entirely if not for this!
Deadpool with his own word bubble! Warrior with an outfit made from Magic the Gathering cards.
Game of Thrones characters! My friend told me who they were. Please don't hate me because I've never seen the show before... maybe it's time for another Netflix binge...
Sorry for the off-focus. I was running away from a Lego ninja! LADY LEGO NINJA! =D
As you can see, I had a blast at Comic Con even with the summer heat and some longer lines. I skipped the busiest day (Saturday) and wandered about the rest of the time to catch all the sights! Did you attend Comic Con? What was your favorite part?

You must be a comic fan to have gone yourself! Friend had passes this year and invited me as we'd never been before. Then he gave them away since we both aren't comic people. But it seems like an event one should try at least once right? Love the selfies!
I don't really follow comics much either but I do have a collection of Mutts by Patrick McDonnell. I think it's fun to see all the booths and items being sold while talking to the artists and vendors. I haven't gone in two years so it felt fresh this visit. I prefer Sundays too but Thursday would also be a good day to go!
Cool photos! It's so difficult to obtain Con tickets nowadays. I haven't gone since 2010. :(
The GOT cosplayers were cool (Daenarys, Jon Snow, Robert Baratheon and Ygritte!!!). iwas excited to see that the live acton Tick is coming back. I loved the original cartoon version. Looks like you had a lot of fun!
Ooh I just looked up Daenerys and remember seeing her in a recent GoT dragon video! Now I'm curious about the show cuz of a mythical creature haha! My brother was the one who watched the Tick but I don't think I ever got into it. Per google, there was another live action version from the early 2000's. There's probably so much more CG in this new one! I may check it out.
I have that season of the 1st live action Tick which sucked. I have yet to see this new one from Amazon Prime.
i guess i'm not surprised since i never even heard of the live one! then again, there's plenty of good shows i missed that i either still haven't seen or just finally binged on in the last couple of years!
That's awesome you checked out comic con! One of these days I'll win the ticket lottery and get in again.
There's still plenty to do without a ticket but hope you can enter the convention center soon! :)
Looks like a fun time. We have a Comic Con in Austin too, and I'm always amazed at how crowded and popular it is! My friend made a special costume and went and waited in line for hours to try to get a photo with Jason Momoa. After some lucky breaks, she succeeded!
i grew up in texas and didn't even know there was a comic con in austin (about an hour away from home). then again, i only found about comic con once i moved to san diego!
What a fun time! I didn't realize there was so much to do without going inside. Super great opportunities for a good time for sure!
the convention center just can't contain everything! plus the outdoor activities are good for additional promotion because not everyone is able to get tickets to the actual convention! this year i have four day pass! yay!
I can't imagine how long it takes to get everything set-up for ComicCon! San Diego is a great city! (My sister grew up with the guys who did the "Tick" display.)
