Mille Feuille

I think it was during the summer when I first noticed the sign for Mille Feuille.  I eagerly awaited their grand opening.  I was very interested in their Chocolate Buffet...  But, when they opened last year, I read a lot of negative comments (some about the attitude of their servers and some about the relatively small servings) and decided not to try them out.

Months later and here we are.  I changed my mind and stopped in on Valentine's Day.  They were offering a pre-fixed tasting menu by reservation only.  The couples seated at the little tables seemed to be enjoying themselves.  I continued to look around and was in awe of the clean, crisp, sophisticated decor.  The color scheme reminded me of Celadon (the Thai restaurant near Hash House a go go).  The servers were just as clean, crisp, and sophisticated.  I guess some could mistake their professionalism for a bit of French attitude (as some on Yelp have suggested).  I was also able to glance through the window and watch one of their chocolatiers at work.

Black Forest Truffle and Chocolates

We ordered the Black Forest Truffle ($6.50).  There's a lot of care that goes into this!  There's chocolate sponge cake at the bottom.  On top of that is Cabernet panna cotta wrapped around red velvet sponge cake with a brandied cherry on top, surrounded by bittersweet dark chocolate mousse, and then covered in a dark chocolate glaze with chocolate curls.  Although I didn't care for the brandied cherry or the Cabernet panna cotta, I thought it was delicious.  I was very fond of the mousse.

We also picked up two chocolates ($2.25 each): Curry Caramel and Salted Red Chili Truffle.  I only tried the Salted Red Chili Truffle and it was not to my liking!  I prefer sweeter chocolates, not the exotic ones.

As far as the servings go...  yes, you get smaller-sized pastries than at Extraordinary Desserts, but they also cost less.  Their pastries range from $3.75 (eclairs) to $6.50.  And some of their individual treats require more manual labor.  They don't just cut a slice from a larger cake.  Also, their chocolates are very comparable to Chuao (both size and price).  Just keep these things in mind if you decide to try them out and hopefully, you won't be disappointed!

I've heard that they've closed or are possibly relocating. Anyone know for sure?
