Thai House Cuisine (Convoy)

I don't eat Thai often but I do get excited when I'm about to have some! In fact, I might go even more often if I just knew where to go... So this sort of marks the beginning of my personal food quest for this year. Or to be more accurate, my Pad See Ew quest, which is my favorite Thai dish. I also like curries but I gotta focus on one thing at a time!

As a starter, we went very local to Thai House Cusine in the Convoy area.

Thai House Cuisine - pad see ew chicken

Of course, I automatically ordered the Pad See Ew with chicken ($9.95). I know I've had it here before but I can't remember any old details. Food blog to the rescue! For this visit, I tried to think about what I liked and disliked. In general, the sauce was similar to what I'd expect, a bit dark sauce based but with a touch of sweet like oyster sauce perhaps. The white meat chicken was cooked through but not juicy. Unfortunately it was a bit plain by itself and had not soaked up any of the sauce flavoring. At least the veggies had a nice pan fried nibble to them. I think chinese broccoli or whatever veggie this is suits this best. Overall an average dish that could work for my pad see ew craving until I find the next best thing (hopefully soon)!

Thai House Cuisine - duck specialty

We also decided on one of the duck specialties ($13.95). I thought it was Crispy Duck or something similar but the possible menu names and ingredients online don't exactly match what's in the picture. At least this dish came out with half of a crispy duck. There were nice chunks of meat on the duck bones and the skin had a nice crisp texture. The accompanying sauce was spicy sweet but full of flavor. We enjoyed this dish a little more than the other.

By the end of the meal, we were very stuffed. That duck ended up being more filling than we expected, or at least when combined with my dish. It's also very reasonably priced so it keeps us in budget too! It's a slow start but I'm ready for my next Thai restaurant. Where should we go next?

I think this was the first Thai restaurant my parents ever took me to when I was younger. The duck looks pretty good as does the noodles. People seem to love Sab E Lee (there's one in Linda Vista and another in Rancho Penasquitos) for authentic Thai. Spices Thai has nice lunch specials as well.

I have tried Sab E Lee before too but haven't posted anything yet. I think we'll make an excuse to go back to 'review' it though! I haven't been to Spices Thai in a long time so I think that place is owed a revisit too! I want THAI this week!

Mmm, I love Pad See Ew. I love the extra thick noodles! I like a place in Scripps Poway called Takhrai Thai - they have this appetizer called "Angel Wings" where they stuff noodles and chicken and goodies into chicken wings... hard to describe but really tasty. As a bonus, there's a Lappert's ice cream shop next door!

I have never heard of either place! I think I will have to go visit both sometime in February. I've still got a couple pending reviews currently (including two other Thai restaurants) so I need a little time to catch up on posts first!
