Hash House a go go
I had heard several people speak highly of the Hash House, but did not have the opportunity to visit until a recent Sunday… I’ve heard you can expect long lines, but luckily for us, it was about 1 pm and we only had to wait a few minutes for a table for six.
Lynn says: “The Flapjacks here are HUGE! This is probably the size of a large dinner plate, with an even larger than normal plate to hold it. The flapjacks taste delicious here but due to the size, you can get tired of it fast. A better idea is to split with 2 or more people because they are best fresh!”
Roasted Pork Tenderloin House Hash with charred tomato, corn, baby green beans, and mozzarella tossed with crispy potatoes and topped with 2 eggs, served with watermelon, and a biscuit. Dennis says: “There was waaay too many potatoes to eat. So after a while, it got really tiring to eat those. I should have asked them to substitute for mash potatoes instead of the roasted potatoes. Other than that, the rest of the meal was alrite. The roasted meat was juicy and drenched in soft and melted cheese. The scrambled eggs were like any other and the biscuit was just plain hard. Boo hoo!”
The traditional breakfast Roasted Chicken House Hash comes with garlic, onions, asparagus, and rosemary, but I ordered it without the garlic, onions, and asparagus, so basically, I just got the roasted chicken, but it was GOOD roasted chicken! Sometimes a girl just needs some meat without all the filler… and I agree with Dennis, there were too many crispy potatoes and the biscuit was hard. I got tired of eating the potatoes after a while and I tried to break into the biscuit to see if the middle was soft. I prefer McDonald’s biscuits… My two scrambled eggs were also good, but I don’t think you can really ruin scrambled eggs. As for the watermelon, I didn’t try it, but fruit is fruit.
If you’ve never been to the Hash House, you should try it at least once. If I remember correctly, most of the dishes are $10 - $15. Part of the fun is seeing what everyone else around you has ordered. The foot-long mini-tree growing out of your biscuit is an interesting sight. If you finish the super large portions, then I congratulate you. Otherwise, take the rest home and have yourself a merry little leftover treat…
