Bao's Awesome Burgers and Sandwiches (BABS)

I feel like an old timer here. Most of the coworkers that know about this place were introduced to it by me! Dennis and I have been going here every once in a while... like, before it was remodeled, before it was named BABS, before it was The B Spot and unpatented, way back to when it was just GREEN TEA HOUSE. OMG do I miss the strawberry kiwi slush boba they served... this place went through a lot of changes!

A lot of people have been checking out BABS lately, especially due to the awesome 2 burgers/drinks for $13ish groupon-type deal. I already knew it was a winner since Dennis and I dig this place. We already had our eyes set on one item off the menu guaranteed.

Bao's Awesome Burgers and Sandwiches (BABS) - b-b-beast

The b-b-beast. Dennis and buddies used to chow down on this monster after a long hard bike ride. Yea, replenish calories you just burned... mmmmm. This thing is still always a brain-racker on how to get it in but we manage to make it work. We always get sourdough bread when asked. The pastrami, roast beef, and corned beef inside is tasty and there's a chunk of it too! The fries give it a little extra volume but lose a little since they won't be crisp. The slaw on here is one of few that I'll actually eat. I despise the stuff normally but this one works okay with me. It's not super strong and seems like a smaller, less messy portion than it used to be! Still gets all over the place though! Also, once I tried the b-b-beauty (with turkey and other stuff) but I didn't like it because it tasted so... healthy? I surrendered to the b-b-beast and never looked back!

Bao's Awesome Burgers and Sandwiches (BABS) - Texas Burger

We also got the Texas Burger. This was my FIRST burger after three weeks, ever since San Diego Burger Week where I indulged a little too much! Oh boy did this totally hit the spot though. I guess I missed burgers after all! I actually preferred the burger over the sandwich on this visit! Stuffed with melted cheese inside the patty, topped with some chopped bacon, and over a thick fried onion ring. I just inhaled my addictive half of the burger first then passed it over to Dennis. Then stole the last bite from him as well... I seriously couldn't resist!

Bao's Awesome Burgers and Sandwiches (BABS) - Texas Burger

We upgraded our fries to sweet potato fries with the Texas Burger. No soggy fries from being inside a sandwich like in the beast! The size of these fries are about right for me, not too thin or thick! It's lightly seasoned too, which I prefer.

At the end, we were totally stuffed. 1/2 lb burger and an even larger sandwich will do that for ya. Also, for some reason, I typically refer to it as Bao's Awesome Burgers, i.e. the "long winded version", except minus the "sandwiches" part... so BAB? hahah... The servers are friendly and they usually have the food network on their TV! My kind of restaurant! It's a 'indulge' type place for us so we don't go that often but we do enjoy our gut-busting visits!

S really likes the fries here; we haven't had the sweet potato ones though, just the regular. I can't remember if I've had the Texas burger before... but this post makes me hungry for burgers! :D

Hi Jinxi!

This post put me in the mood for burgers too! Dennis and I ended up at Ruby's Diner for dinner since it was next to the movie theater we were at. They have a May Monday promo for two burgers and two shakes for $19.99. Too bad the burgers were just okay... not as good as the one at BABS anyway. Or maybe they were just TINY. =)

Wow they look huge! Burgers are another one of those things I crave like once in a blue moon. And it's a good thing too, since I would probably need to live at the gym otherwise.

I've never eaten a burger stacked so high. It looks cool, but seems like a challenge to eat. It's such a high/deep piece to cut through. I can just imagine how all over the place it would be to eat it. Looks tasty though. I prefer sweet potato fries too!

We eat out so much more these days (ever since I got married). I already need to live at the gym! *sigh* Good thing we do asian food most of the time, which seems healthier than other options! I used to cook more when I was single but had to adjust so that hubby would eat it too. I should bulk up my pinterest recipe board a bit for new ideas!

There are bigger burgers out there too! Did you see our Henry's Pub post? We ate it all! Use the "squish" method haha!

I think we're gonna have to try that burger again, the last time we had it was a overcooked and didn't taste so great :( I do actually like the coleslaw on their sandwiches, too, and normally I hate that stuff. It just seems to work all melded together with those tasty meats! Great photos :)

Yea, it must be hard to cook it perfectly every time, especially since it's filled with cheese. I don't have a clue how they know when it's done! I think a long time ago, we ordered a burger to go and the meat was slightly undercooked.. raw even.. though this was way back when it first opened, but they improved a lot! I'll have to try another item next time but even the regular quicksand burger is very tasty (as claimed by my coworker).

Those things are impressive!!!! I've never heard of it before (bad food blogger lol) but that burger looks amazing and the fries look really crispy.

There's just too many places to know about everything! That's why we read other people's blogs for ideas! A couple of your restaurant reviews are on my to-eat list! =)
