Supporting Local - March Roundup

Hey friends, it's Dennis (the quiet one behind the camera). I don't write often but wanted to share a few local business that I support. Let me know in the comments what other places I should check out!

Menya Ultra

Menya Ultra Chashu Tonkotsu Ramen

I'm a huge fan of ramen, especially from my favorite spot here. Both the Mira Mesa and Clairemont locations are currently open for pick up and takeout orders only. You can order most of their menu items including bottles of beer to go!

Food is made quickly and usually ready for pickup within 10 to 15 minutes. This is by the far the fastest and easiest way of getting Menya's ramen since you don't have to deal with long wait times for seating during normal business operations.

The item ordered in the photo above is their Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen with thick noodles, extra meat, and egg (I did a poor job of cutting it in half!). Just make sure to assemble everything and eat it right away when you get home.

Newtopia Cyder

Newtopia Cyder is my go to brand for cider beverages! They have a large variety of flavors and collaboration blends that rotate seasonally. My favorites are the sweeter flavors such as the Chai Me a River, Blue Dream, and their new Cherrindipity.

Their tasting room is currently closed but you can order online or over the phone for delivery or pickup at their Scripps Ranch location. They have several great deals going on right now including bottle sales, 50% off merchandise, and gift card specials.

Little Sakana

Little Sakana Sushi

Like other restaurants still open, Little Sakana is doing togo orders only. So unfornately this means no All You Can Eat (AYCE) at this time. The good news though is that their menu is 40% off!

Pictured above are the Soft-shell Crab Hand Roll, Ex-Girlfiend and Ex-Boyfriend protein style rolls, Hamachi-kama, UFC roll, and the OMG roll. The actual food comes in take out containers of course. We just thought it would be nice to dine on fancy plates for dinner. Check out our full review of Little Sakana for other things we've tried here.

Seven Caves Spirits

Seven Caves Spirits Barrel Rum and Maple Syrup

I've only found out about Seven Caves Spirits late last year when I attended one of their tasting events. Owner Geoff produces small batches of rum, gin, whiskey, and even barrel aged maple syrup. I never knew I needed maple syrup cocktails in my life until I tried it here for the first time!

Recently, Geoff and several other San Diego distilleries have been producing hand sanitizers for the community. You can pick one up for free or with a donation to the United States Bartenders Guild at Seven Caves.

You can visit Seven Caves in Miramar when they hold their public tasting events throughout the year. Otherwise they are available by appointment.

Fuss'N Family BBQ Supply

Fuss Family BBQ Supply Cookin Pellets

Whenever I am in need of more wood pellets for my Rec Tec Grill I contact Fuss from Fuss'N Family BBQ Supply on Facebook. He is an authorized San Diego distributor for CookinPellets which is a highly regarded premium wood pellets brand.

I recommend trying out the Perfect Mix blend to start out with. It's a combination of hickory, cherry, maple, and apple wood. Otherwise you can order each wood flavor individually and experiment with your own combinations!

Fuss does not have a storefront but his business is about delivering BBQ supplies right to you. He not only serves San Diego County but pretty much the Southern California area. Just contact him to schedule a delivery!

Menya and Sakana both sound like a nice meal for this weekend. I heard about Sakana through this blog and visited them months ago for the AYCE. So it's good to hear they're offering the 30% off right now. Happy Friday to you and Lynn :)

The food options in Mira Mesa have improved so it's easier to eat local these days. We still have places that we've never tried in the area though!
