Royale Cocktails and Hamburgers - San Diego, CA
Royale has been on my to-do list forever! Our first time was back when it was Royale with Cheese in North Park, next door to what is now Madison on Park. During that Burger Week, I remember an AMAZING burger with magical tots. Fast forward to three years later...
The owners finally obtained their own space in Point Loma! This is close to Nimitz Blvd so bordering on the Ocean Beach side.
Inside, we can see the retro bar seating in the middle. There are several tables in the front and back areas as well.
Look! A jukebox for the music junkies. Kick back to the good times!
The classic burger is a must try... Fantastic whole grain mustard and a packed burger! Reward yourselfe with the yums!
If you check into Yelp, you can get a free tator tots! Score! The tots were fried perfectly. The seasoning was classic so not as magical as I had remembered them (with a bit of sweet to them). The portion was very generous!
The breakfast sandwich is quite the monster meal. You can't eat sandwich style because the biscuit will break apart so we took a knife and fork to dig in! The dark meat is thick and juicy while the fried batter feels a bit like fish and chips style. It's also super crispy so the gravy helps to soften it for your eager bites. The gravy was plenty seasoned and maybe even a bit meat infused in the taste. It was very viscous on your tongue as you lapped it ALL up. The biscuit had a little bit of doughiness to it. Surprisingly the veggies blended well and added flavor.
Is it silly to call a salad juicy? In that regard I mean that each component was lightly coated so that it was not dry and I think the shredded beets were a great addition.
The guava lime drink was so refreshing, especially to cut through the heaviness of our brunch food! It felt like a great palate cleaner.
Overall we really loved both the food and drink items. That chicken might need to be split between two people due to the size! I mean, just compare them side by side! We had to take the tots home and a quarter of the chicken biscuit too!
Royale is great little neighborhood spot and we'll definitely revisit when we want some banging grub in the area! They also offer drinks so you can get your drink on as well!

I think that I gained 5 lbs just reading this! ;) I'm always up for a good burger, and that breakfast burger sounds intriguing, especially to an Appalachian.
