I have no idea what this is but my coworker ordered it and was awful. It came out over seasoned and very soggy. I think its supposed to be sweet potato fries but it oiliness killed its natural flavor.

Instead traditional onion rings, this place serves onion wedges! Its a fantastic idea because I often bite into onion rings and find that the onion ring inside gets pulled or falls out of the crispy shell.

Jalepeno Pepperjack Burger. It may look small but it packs a mean punch! The burger is quite spicey and goes well with the light horseradish-mayo dipping sauce. The only downside to this burger is that the bun is quite plain.

Another favorite place to eat in downtown San Diego for obvious reasons… awesome garlic fries! =)

Today my friends and I ordered the Longshanks Sausage Sandwich, “The most ruthless sandwich you’ll ever eat.” But was it? Maybe…

This sandwich has sausage, peppers, provologne cheese, onions and a side of fries (you can substitute for garlic fries). It was pretty good about halfway through but the sausage gets to you. Its slightly juicy when you first bite into it but theres a strange dryness at the same time.  I like the BBQ Bacon Burger instead. That one has cheddar cheese, onion rings and a tangy bbq sauce. Yum!

Christina ordered the Danny Boy’s Shepherds Pie (half amount shown). I can’t recall how this tasted but it was probably tasty. The camera flash makes it look liquidy but its quite firm. The garlic bread is like any other.

I love this place! Its one of the few places in downtown that is affordable AND offers fantastic food. I usually order the Lamb Doner ($6) and a side of fries ($2). The Doner is a tortilla wrapped sandwich with salad and your choice of lamb, chicken, or falafel with a yummy garlic yogurt sauce. It has a fresh and healthy taste to it. The fries here are extremely good and are made consistently crispy. I like to dip them in a side of garlic yogurt sauce which sounds weird but you just have to try and taste the sauce for yourself. Its strangefully delightful.

Out of the numorous times I have been here, I have never tried anything other than the doners. But Jeremy is a notorious salmon fiend and had ordered the Salmon Filet Kebab ($8.50). According to him, the salmon tasted slightly undercooked but the vegetables were killer. I told him to get the salmon recooked but by the time I finished my sentence, he had already finished it!

Taste: 11/10 Yay for Doner!

Planning a romantic dinner? Like the sound of water? You might want to try River Ranch Lodge. It’s right on Truckee River and if you’re lucky enough, you can sit next to the river.

Salads: I’m not sure which they are, but I think the second might be the House Salad…

Pan Fried Crab Cakes ($12.95) - Dungeness crab with smoky aioli and micro greens.

rr4.jpg

Portobella Mushroom Napolean ($18.95) - Grilled marinated portabellas with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, sauteed spinach and broiled tomatoes.

Sonoma Chicken ($19.95) - Half free-range chicken, pan roasted with caramelized onions and sherry, served on mashed potatoes with greens. The skin was nice and crispy. The meat was tender. The caramelized onions and sherry thickened just enough so that it reminded me of a buttery gravy. This doesn’t reheat well if you have leftovers.

Duck Two Ways ($26.95) - Half Maple Leaf Farms duck with pan roasted breast and confit leg. Served with a blackberry fumet.

As I was eating my chicken, I noticed that the couple next to me had ordered one of the specials… Jumbo Shrimp Pasta. I only noticed this because of the size of the shrimp. JUMBO! The largest shrimp that I’ve ever seen. I’ll be trying that next time ;)

This restaurant is extremely popular during lunch hours. Pretty much everyone who goes river rafting ends up here, in their patio area. They offer the usual (burgers, wings, fries, sodas, etc) for less than their dinner prices.
