Looking for a breakfast or brunch place? Want to try dishes that other restaurants usually don’t have? Well, you’ve come to the right place!

Cup of Granola with Milk - Kind of unsweetened blandness…

Lobster Scramble-In with a Croissant ($12.95) - OMG!!! This is incredibly delicious! I don’t know why, but lobster and eggs go great together. It reminded me of a dish that my mother makes, which is sort of like a shrimp quiche. This is the best dish that I’ve tried here. I think they used provolone cheese.

Cajun Shrimp Scramble-In with a Chocolate Chip Muffin ($12.95?) - I was a little disappointed that the cajun flavor kind of came and went. I was looking forward to more of a kick. I think the tiny shrimp are mixed in with cheddar cheese. The muffin was a little overcooked. The potatoes are the usual suspects, but with a little bit of onion mixed in.

This was my second visit. The first time, I ordered Monkey Madness ($3.95?). It was pretty good! I think they cooked sliced bananas in a pan with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. A sweet treat, but definitely not a meal. I also had the Lobster Scramble-In with an Apple Cinnamon Muffin. The muffin was good. I think they offer a different muffin everyday.

Both times, I sat near the kitchen and I could practically hear every word the cooks were saying. This isn’t exactly fine dining, so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised at the yelling due to a mix up in the kitchen. After a while, it became funny.

Aside from the kitchen antics, I would definitely try this place again. There were so many dishes that I wanted to try. There wasn’t a wait today, but there can be, especially during weekends and holidays. I don’t think they take reservations, but you can call ahead and place your name on their wait list.

I read about The Farm House Cafe in an article at http://www.signonsandiego.com/ and I just had to try it out. The cozy little cafe’s decor reminded me of another French restaurant (Bleu Boheme). There isn’t a lot of space inside… you can sit at one of their small tables or at the counter. There are also tables outside so you can enjoy a nice sunny day. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. As I looked around, I noticed tables full of friends and families enjoying a lazy Sunday brunch. This place is definitely not like Denny’s, IHOP, or Coco’s. You’ll find the food to be much more sophisticated here.

I ordered the Pain Perdu - French Toast with Lavender Honey ($7). This was absolutely delicious! When it was first presented, I didn’t recognize it as French Toast. Why not? It was made with FRENCH BREAD! I think they take a baguette and cut it into one and a half inch thick slices. Like I said, more sophisticated than a chain restaurant. It is also available in a “petit” size for $5.

My friend Minoru ordered the Farm House Cafe Omelet ($7) with a side of Chicken Apple Sausage ($3). Of course I sampled everything ;) The omelet was made with cheddar cheese and chives. It was very light and fluffy. The potato galette was practically the perfect hash browns. It was cooked, but not dry and crunchy like other restaurants. The sausage was tasty and not greasy at all.

The Farm House Cafe is a must try! The staff is very friendly and they offer delicious rustic country French cuisine at affordable prices!

3 Egg Omelette Plate Farmer Style
(3 egg Omelette Plate - Farmer Style)

I ordered this because I was really hungry but we didn’t realize just how big it was! The omelette plate came with three eggs that was mixed with ham and veggies and came with a side of hash brown potatoes and two slices of toast. Inside of the omelette was even more potatoes which sorta made the overall taste a bit repetitive. Fortunately, the hash had a tasty hint of butter that didn’t make it too tiring.

Chili Cheeseburger
(Chili Cheeseburger Combo)

The chili burger was pretty good but it was not the best. It was definitely decent but Lynn doesn’t eat chiliburgers enough to compare them to. The fries had great thickness and taste to them. Altogether, Lynn liked the chiliburger more than the omelette that I got.

When my former employer used to pay for lunches, I think Le Peep was one of the choices. I remember it was pretty good, so when Dave suggested that we try the restaurant in Poway, I was up for it.

Some kind of raspberry coffee drink - espresso with whipped cream. I am not a coffee drinker, but it sounded so good. Big mistake. Espresso is extremely strong and I now realize that I do not care for it.

White Chocolate Kiss - steamed cocoa, vanilla syrup, and whipped cream. After the coffee fiasco, I ordered this drink and it was delicious.

Green Fields Forever - I ordered mine without spinach and mushrooms, but it comes with chicken and cream cheese scrambled with eggs and peasant potatoes and toast. I didn’t like the Hollandaise sauce. I guess it’s a taste I’m not used to, but everything else was great.

Since I don’t eat beef or pork, but I like eating meat for breakfast, I’m glad I found this restaurant because it’s one of a few who offer a dish with chicken. This is a nice place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.

I had heard several people speak highly of the Hash House, but did not have the opportunity to visit until a recent Sunday… I’ve heard you can expect long lines, but luckily for us, it was about 1 pm and we only had to wait a few minutes for a table for six.

Lynn says: “The Flapjacks here are HUGE! This is probably the size of a large dinner plate, with an even larger than normal plate to hold it. The flapjacks taste delicious here but due to the size, you can get tired of it fast. A better idea is to split with 2 or more people because they are best fresh!”

Roasted Pork Tenderloin House Hash with charred tomato, corn, baby green beans, and mozzarella tossed with crispy potatoes and topped with 2 eggs, served with watermelon, and a biscuit.

Dennis says: “There was waaay too many potatoes to eat. So after a while, it got really tiring to eat those. I should have asked them to substitute for mash potatoes instead of the roasted potatoes. Other than that, the rest of the meal was alrite. The roasted meat was juicy and drenched in soft and melted cheese. The scrambled eggs were like any other and the biscuit was just plain hard. Boo hoo!”

(back to Cathy)

The traditional breakfast Roasted Chicken House Hash comes with garlic, onions, asparagus, and rosemary, but I ordered it without the garlic, onions, and asparagus, so basically, I just got the roasted chicken, but it was GOOD roasted chicken! Sometimes a girl just needs some meat without all the filler… and I agree with Dennis, there were too many crispy potatoes and the biscuit was hard. I got tired of eating the potatoes after a while and I tried to break into the biscuit to see if the middle was soft. I prefer McDonald’s biscuits… My two scrambled eggs were also good, but I don’t think you can really ruin scrambled eggs. As for the watermelon, I didn’t try it, but fruit is fruit.

If you’ve never been to the Hash House, you should try it at least once. If I remember correctly, most of the dishes are $10 - $15. Part of the fun is seeing what everyone else around you has ordered. The foot-long mini-tree growing out of your biscuit is an interesting sight. If you finish the super large portions, then I congratulate you. Otherwise, take the rest home and have yourself a merry little leftover treat…
